My 10 Favorite Shots of 2022

Brie | Jack Russell Terrier

This shot is so clean! So simple yet so empowering. Brie was a stunning model to photograph. She didn’t sit as nicely as her sister but the times I could snag pictures of her were amazing! She was always curious about what I was doing and responded to my techniques extremely well. She loved my squeaker, animal whistles, barking, and of course a tasty treat! I was actually playing with a bit of color this day. It didn’t become super prominent in the camera but I was using purple as a secondary light. If you look closer, I’m sure you can see it! It still came out really nice and I’m truly happy with it.

Thomas Hutlet

My good friend, Thomas Hutlet! When I heard that he and another friend were playing at a local pub called The Vat, I had to go and try my hand at concert photography. It was so entertaining watching them play! Thomas did amazing and was really into his music. You could tell that he was very passionate about his art as he was fairly animated with his movements. He and his talented bandmates, Jaydin and Tyler, were having the time of their lives on stage! They were using the stage generously. It seemed like they were all just rocking with each other and enjoying the night, which made it enjoyable for everyone else! Thomas is a great presence on stage and off.

The Humble Cartel

The Humble Cartel is my other friend’s band which also played at The Vat the same night as Hutlet. There was a moment when the lead singer, Kye, got incredibly into the music. Luckily, I was looking through my viewfinder at just the right time! I snagged this photo as quickly as I could and it turned out awesome. I find that lighting also adds to the feel of the picture. I can’t quite put it into words and describe exactly how it is. It’s just so passionate! Completely raw emotion, like it’s just you and the music. The light, the blue hue, the pose, it all made for a great photo. Which is still Kye’s profile picture, fun fact! Definitely a highlight of the night!

Fenway Park

This is the part of the Fenway Park tour where our guide showed us the famous red seat. It indicates the farthest home run ever hit in the park. Someone has yet to beat it! He also told us that it’s still very much a real seat that you can purchase to sit in for the games. Be warned though, people will come up to you to take a picture in the seat. I was so excited when we got to this point because as we were walking up, there was no one around! There were staff and other tours but of course, that was it. I thought that this was going to be an awesome chance for a negative space photo. And I was right! I was so happy with this photo and the fact that it’s one red seat in a sea of green, looks so cool. It really draws your eye in and I love that there’s a story behind it too. Highly recommend checking out the park if you ever find yourself in or around Boston!

Danielle and Caine

It meant a lot to me to capture this important memory for my cousin. I actually scouted the location ahead of time and this tall grass area is separate from the other part of the park I wanted to shoot at, yet I almost completely forgot that I wanted to photograph in this area! Luckily, I remembered just in time and created some of my favorite images of the day! The whole scene was perfect and made for an amazing moment. I will never not be in love with Autumn shoots; I think the entire photo session was just a magical memory. For me and for Danielle and Caine.

Mika –Canine Friends

Mika is Danielle and Caine’s dog who wonderfully joined them in their maternity session. I love when people ask if they can bring their dogs to their photoshoot. Of course you can bring them along! They’re a part of your family too and deserve to be there for special moments. Mika is a rescue and a senior dog. I knew how important it was that she was there for Danielle and Caine’s new chapter in life and I also wanted to grab a couple of just Mika to let her have her moment in the spotlight! She did so amazing throughout the whole shoot and looked so happy to be there. The autumn leaves paired marvelously with the light brown accents in her fur.

Bridgette –Canine Friends

This entire moment with Bridgette in the morning was gorgeous! We were in a perfect spot for golden hour; the grass was a great find, and there was a fantastic area right outside her house to photograph. Bridgette was backlit so very nicely, I was giddy the whole time! She posed really well too, probably because we were playing ball in between takes. Brigette didn’t really respond to my animal whistles or squeaker but she loved her ball! So that’s what we did! Some dogs look at toys, sounds, or something completely different. You just have to find which one they’re interested in and go from there. Bridgette did a wonderful job and her mom was very happy with the photos!

Bridgette & Cooper –Canine Friends

I’m so proud of this photo and the other two like it! I still had to edit to get them both in focus but this was the only time I was able to get both of them in the same picture. I tried to sit them down nicely but it was clear that that wasn’t going to happen. We went for a walk instead! Treats just weren’t cutting it for my models so I had to think about what might work best for them and not just for me. While on our walk, I would stop and wait for them to look back at me and that’s when I got the snapshots! Bridgette and Cooper are so well behaved, it was a given that they would hold back and check in with me when I stopped. I did that a couple of times to get some variation in the photos but still knew I would have to edit to make them both in focus. Still so damn proud of how it all turned out!

Stella –Feline Friends

The detail in the eyes is phenomenal! This is one of the many reasons why I love my macro. There was some beautiful natural light coming from the right, which was able to illuminate the room fairly nicely. With close-ups like these, the eyes are usually the main focus. With good light and a good macro, you can get some wicked detail! I can’t quite remember what I did to get Stella’s attention but she’s looking so contentedly at the camera. She was a remarkable model the entire session. She posed ever so nicely and was extremely curious about what I was doing. So she looked at the camera quite a bit!

Inez & Derek

This was such a funny moment! We were doing a pose where both dogs got a big ol’ kiss and I guess Loki wanted to return the favor. He gave his dad a big smooch on the cheek and this was the photo a captured afterward! I love this image because it was such an authentic moment. I feel like this encapsulates Inez and Derek perfectly! The morning of our mini-session was pretty cold but we made the most of it, snagged some awesome photos, and had a great time seeing the lovely Inez again. Showing my work in every season makes my heart incredibly happy. Winter may not be everyone’s favorite but it’s still a beautiful time to get photos!
