My 10 Favorite Shots of 2023

The Groenevelds

This was one of my bigger family shoots this year and we had a great time! I love this shot because I was able to, with the help of Calvin, get all the dogs looking in my direction. This a large group including dogs, and it’s sometimes hard to get everyone in order and paying attention. But to be honest, this session was a breeze! The dogs were so well-mannered and so curious about me that they were perfect subjects. I can’t wait for many more big family photo sessions, it may be difficult to arrange but wow is it worth it!

Tornado | The Full Circle

Tornado will always have a special place in my heart. I was there the day he was born and there to photograph the end. The day after our session, his health took a dive and his owner decided to finally say goodbye to Tornado. I was so thankful I was there to capture his last day in his favorite spot, his father’s bed. Tornado was awake and curious, and I’m so happy he allowed me into his space. He looked perfectly stoic during his close up and these pictures will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

Keenan & Haley

This was Keenan and Haley’s first ever photo session together and we had a ton of fun! The weather was beautiful, the light was gorgeous, and the vibes were immaculate. We did a bunch of poses, lots of new ones I wanted to try out, and it was just an hour full of laughs! These are two beautiful people close to my heart and I’m so glad I was there to photograph their love. This photo in particular was just a glimpse of candidness right after the main pose we did. You can see the love and admiration between these two that is just so real. I can’t wait to see where their love takes them!

Atlas “Bean”

Bean is one of the most gorgeous cats I’ve seen. From his fur pattern to his eyes, he’s a beautiful Bengal cat. His photoshoot consisted of us hanging out in the bedroom (his favorite lounge spot) and Bean just doing his thing. Most cats are curious creatures so while I was doing crazy things behind the camera to capture his attention, I got amazing shots of Bean in his natural state. I love this photo in particular because Bean was just looking out the window. Something caught his attention so he looked with such intent and I loved the shot! You can see the wonder in his eyes and the determination to figure out if it was a bird or not.

Danielle and her First Child

I knew this one had to make the list for several reasons. First of all, it’s the only smile we got from her the entire session (If you would call it a smile). I called it a win! Secondly, and most importantly, mothers often don’t get enough photos together with their children. I’m sure you’ve heard that before or may have experienced it yourself. Women and mothers are often the ones taking the pictures and when they look back on those formative years, they realize that they had barely any photos of them and their babies. This might have been one of the most important pictures I took that session and it turned out beautifully.

The Groenveld Children

These beautiful people might look familiar! Some of my favorite clients and cousins! We did this shoot as a surprise for their mom, she’s so supportive of my business so we did a secret fall session for her. I chose this shot (out of many great ones) because I love the contrast of it. I loved playing with the sort of “boy band” look, a bit spaced apart from each other, grouped out, different poses individually but all together. I’ve been really loving this pose for families lately. Also, can I say that they also NAILED the fall color coordination for this session? Makes my photographer heart happy!

Daley

The golden hour, the leaves, the contrast of his fur, gorgeous! This small session was so much fun and Daley was such a good boy posing. I love this photo because the whole background is the beautiful golden leaves. As well as the most adorable look on Daley’s face! This is the exact face where he’s sweetly waiting to be given a treat (or begging for some food most of the time). I also love his ear sticking out to the side. That’s one of our favorite parts of Daley! He has one ear that sticks straight up and out in contrast to his other more floppy ear. It makes him all the more adorable and I’m glad it’s taking a bit of the spotlight in this picture!

The Villavicencio-Polley Family

Such a fun fall photo session! It was a bit chilly but we made the most of it. This was the first of many smiles during the shoot and this is one of my favorite poses I like to do with little ones. It brings all the attention to their little bundle of joy! This was the first real photo session they had in a long time since having their child. I was happy to capture their new family and share the love.

Koda

Koda was all done up and ready for his close-up! Koda is part of the Villavicencio-Polley family and did a great job posing throughout our mini-session. I knew Koda was a huge fan of squeaky toys so I knew I could easily grab his attention. He sat so regal and nice, it was a breeze to capture a few nice photos on his own while the little one was taking a snack break! I think he was just wondering why he wasn’t having a snack break too!

Baker

This was a great winter shoot! Baker does really well off leash so she, her mom, and I all took a walk around Red Deers ‘Three Smile Bend’ and got many great shots! Shots of her running, standing in the brush, the beautiful all-white snow in the background, it was so much fun. Baker was great with it all, she’s effortlessly beautiful! With her classic Red Heeler coat, the gorgeous red stood out great with the snowy backdrop. I love this shot in particular because the soft look in Baker’s eye is just so Baker! She’s such a loving pup and loves to be around her people!

Baker is a Red Heeler. It's a great portrait shot of her, the beautiful white snow takes up most of the background. Baker is looking directly into the camera.
